What can I do regarding my child's father ?

I'm 16 years old and 33 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. I come from a upper middle cl family and money isn't an issue. I'm dealing with a lot regarding being pregnant and on bedrest and still trying to finish my junior year in high school. My baby could arrive at any moment because of the issues surrounding my pregnancy. My baby's father is my ex "boyfriend". He was emotionally abusive, has anger management issues, and is immature. Four months into my pregnancy I broke up with him because I was sick of being treated badly. He didn't take it well. So, during this time my boyfriend previous to my baby's father (someone whom I was with for two years) stepped in as an emotional support/friend/boyfriend to me. He goes to the same school as my baby's father and is threatened on occasion by the baby's father's friends. My baby's father has moved on now, and has been seeing a new girl for a MONTH that he claims he's in love with. He's set to graduate in June. He has not bought one thing for the baby, he spends all his money on the girlfriend, scarcely returns calls, and is basically a deadbeat without the child even being present. Is there any way I can legally really hold him responsible for the child and support with parenting? Or is it better to just let it be and do it alone(with family support)?
